PRACTICE CLOSURE NOTICE
This is to inform patients and referring providers that Portland Rheumatology Clinic is closing permanently on Dec 31, 2024. Dr. Barkhuizen and his staff have been working diligently since Jan 1, 2024 to transition patient’s care to other rheumatologists, pain clinics or primary care providers. It behooves the remaining patients to contact the office prior to Dec 31, 2024 to ensure that you have sufficient quantity of opioid analgesics available to avoid drug withdrawal, until you have established care with your new provider(s).
The office staff can provide a list of rheumatologists or pain clinics in Portland and surrounding cities to ensure smooth transition of your care. Dr. Barkhuizen’s comprehensive summary sheet has the entire chronology of your rheumatology care and the last 2 or 3 visits include his treatment plan and all the laboratory and other testing performed in his clinic. If needed, the original test and imaging results can be obtained directly from the laboratory, imaging facility or My Chart. As of Jan 1, 2025 please follow this link to obtain list of rheumatology offices and pain clinics for ongoing care.
Portland Rheumatology Clinic records will be stored for requisite 10 years at Cariend. Follow this link for detailed instructions on how to obtain a copy of your rheumatology clinic records. It has been an honor to be part of your and your family’s lives since 2006 in this practice. I wish you and your family only the best in health while you deal with your chronic arthritic and other conditions with your next rheumatologist, pain management team and primary care provider. I will keep my current email address active and can be contacted at drb@pdxrheumatology.com especially during the early phase of the transition while you settle down with your new providers to make sure you have enough refills and records have been sent to your new providers.
I have taken a full-time position at Summit Research Network, part of Headlands Research Network. I am based in the Montgomery Park Building in NW Portland, Oregon. I am the principal investigator on their first rheumatology clinical trial in psoriatic arthritis and hoping to expand their portfolio to all rheumatic diseases which will hopefully in the future improve care for thousands of patients world-wide. We are studying new influenza vaccines, migraine, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, preclinical and clinical Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body Dementia, preventative treatment for genetically predisposed individuals without dementia and depression.
Anyone with interest in clinical trial participation can call Summit Research and inquire about enrolling clinical trials at 503-228-2273 with travel reimbursement as well as a Refer-a-Friend program bonus.
